Privacy

Can they do that? is a free, independent, non-commercial guide. We collect as little as we can. For anything about your data, email corrections@cantheydothat.uk.

When you visit

Like any website, our host handles your IP address and browser details to deliver pages and keep the site secure, and keeps short-lived logs. Our reason is our legitimate interest in running the site securely. There are no adverts, social media widgets or tracking cookies. A security cookie may be set to tell people from bots; it's needed to keep the site working and isn't used to track you.

Visitor statistics

We count visits to see which pages are read and which sites send people here, so we can improve the guide. It also records the rough type of device and country, and how quickly pages load. This uses no cookies and builds no profile of you; we only see totals, and totals are all we keep. Our reason is our legitimate interest in knowing which parts of the guide people use.

You can turn this off for this browser below. It's also off if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal.

If you email us

If you report a mistake, we get your email address, your name if you give it, and your message. We use them only to check the correction and reply to you, because we have a legitimate interest in keeping the guide accurate. Your email passes through our email provider, but we don't share it with anyone else, and we delete it once the correction is dealt with.

Our providers

The companies that host the site, count visits and deliver our email handle data for us and only on our instructions. They may process it outside the UK, under safeguards approved for UK data protection law.

Your rights

You can ask to see the data we hold about you, and to have it corrected or deleted. You can also ask us to limit how we use it, and you have the right to object to us using it at all. Email us at the address above.

If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
